1. It’s a real life castle

Better than that – it’s TWO real life castles. Named from the Scottish Gaelic of ‘Rubha Àlainn’, or ‘beautiful headland’, it dates back to the 13th century. The Rowallan Castle team work closely with Historic Scotland to make sure it’s preserved in all its glory too. While the larger castle is able to host weddings and sleep 21 people , a new addition to their accommodation is that you can also hire the old castle (above!) for you and 7 pals if you fancy it :-O Also, you can get married in the courtyard of the castle too, what a backdrop!

2. It’s not that far from Glasgow

You wouldn’t think walking round the grounds  of Rowallan Castle that Glasgow is just a short drive away. It’s around 25 minutes drive from the city centre to feeling like you’re in the middle of nowhere – perfect! Check out transport options for getting to the castle from Glasgow here.

3. The grounds are pretty goddam special

With around 600 acres of land you really have your pick of locations. From the stairs of the old castle (hello, epic) to a kissing tree, gorgeous stone bridges, woods – even a bluebell field at the right time of year…spoilt for choice really :D

4. The rooms and light in those rooms is beaut!

You’d be forgiven for thinking that castle = dark and gloomy. Rowallan Castle is a real joy to photograph as it has the loveliest light, from the atmospheric romance of the ceremony room to the bright airy feel of the banquet room. The rooms set aside for newlyweds to get ready in also have lovely light, and it’s perfectly cosy and atmospheric in the winter too.
